ALLERGIC REACTION TREATMENT

Allergic Reaction Treatment

Anaphylaxis Treatment

While some allergic reactions may be minor and can be treated with over-the-counter antihistamines, anaphylaxis requires professional treatment right away. Every second counts when these severe reactions occur, as airways and breathing can become compromised.

Symptoms of anaphylaxis are similar to those encountered with a minor reaction. However, these become much more amplified. Even if your child isn’t currently diagnosed with any allergies, you should immediately seek medical attention if he or she experiences any combination of these symptoms:
a baby is wearing an oxygen mask while laying on a bed
  • Coughing or wheezing
  • Pain or chest tightness
  • Itchy sensations, hives, rashes, or red skin
  • Sudden runny or stuffy nose and sneezing
  • Swollen tongue or throat/neck
  • Trouble breathing or shortness of breath
  • Trouble swallowing
  • Vomiting

Don’t Delay! Seek Medical Attention Right Away

If your child has known allergies and has an EpiPen® (or other epinephrine injector), you should administer this right away. Depending on the severity of the reaction, you may need to call for emergency medical assistance.
